Prime Minister Narendra Modi brings 157 artifacts and antiquities from the United States after concluding his three-day visit on Saturday 25 September. Prime Minister Modi and US President Joe Biden have both expressed their commitment to strengthening efforts to combat the theft, trafficking and illicit trade of cultural objects. During his three-day visit, Prime Minister Modi held bilateral and multilateral engagements with US President Biden, US Vice President Kamala Harris and his Australian counterparts Scott Morrison and Japanese Yoshihide Suga, addressed the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly and attended the first Quad Summit 2021 in person.

PM Modi brings 157 artifacts, antiquities from USA – Highlights
In light of the Modi government’s continued efforts for the repatriation of antiquities to India, Prime Minister Modi expressed his appreciation for 157 artifacts and antiquities donated by the United States. The list of 157 artifacts includes items mostly belonging to the 11e CE at 14e CE period as well as objects from 2000 BC and 2n/a CE (common era).
About 45 antiques belong to the earlier era. There are 56 terracotta pieces including pair of deer 12e CE, vessel 2n/a CE, female bust 14e CE), and an 18e CE sword with a sheath with an inscription in Persian mentioning Guru Hargovind Singh.
About 71 artifacts are cultural while the other half includes figurines related to Hinduism (60), Buddhism (16) and Jainism (9). Items ranging from the exquisite 8.5 cm high bronze Nataraja from the 12th CE to the one and a half meter bas-relief panel of Revanta in sandstone from the 10th CE.
The motifs related to Hinduism are Chariot Driving Surya, Three-headed Brahma, Siva like Dakshinamurti, Vishnu and his wives, Dancing Ganesha, etc.). Buddhism-related motifs include Bodhisattva Manjushri, Standing Buddha, Tara). The motifs relating to Jainism are Padmasana Tirthankara, Jain Tirthankara, Jaina Choubisi). Secular motifs include Chowri Bearer, an amorphous couple in Samabhanga, a woman drumming, etc.).
The sculptures and objects are made of metal, terracotta and stone. The bronze collection includes ornate figurines of Lakshmi Narayana, Siva Parvathi, Vishnu, Buddha, 24 Jain Tirthankaras and lesser known Brahmi and Nandikesa, Kankalamurti in addition to other unnamed deities.
