Khaike Pan Banaraswala was an afterthought
The popular movie song Khaike Pan Banaraswala, which has thrilled audiences even after decades, was not part of the movie initially. The revelation was made by Amitabh Bachchan in his blog. He wrote that the song was an afterthought and was not written for Don. However, it was Manoj Kumar who suggested adding the song in the second half after seeing the rough cut.
Big B was inspired by Abhishek Bachchan for the song’s steps
The legendary actor also wrote how he took inspiration from his son Abhishek Bachchan for the song. Big B wrote, “There’s a dance move in the song where the footsteps move me sideways, it’s a copy of Abhishek. When he was little, every time he heard music, he would dance and do that side step. I copied that for the song.”
Injured his foot while shooting Khaike Paan Banaraswala
Shooting for this iconic act was not easy for Big B. It is reported that he injured his foot while shooting for Laawaris, after which he limped during filming. In his blog, Amitabh recalled that he had suffered severe burns to his feet after which he could no longer wear shoes or walk properly. Since he had to shoot the song barefoot, Bachchan said he took foot pain injections before each shoot and finished filming.
Ate 40 casseroles to set the stage in the song
We all know how dedicated Amitabh Bachchan is to his work. But did you know the legendary actor chewed about 40 pans to get a scene in the song? The revelation was made by director Chandra Barot. “We ordered 30-40 paans and had Amitabh chew them until we got the right look. We had our scene, but the next day he couldn’t speak because his tongue was cut out because of the ‘chuna’ in the ‘paan’,” he told PTI.
Pran was paid more than Amitabh Bachchan
Although Amitabh Bachchan played the lead role in Don, it is reported that Pran was paid more than him. For the uninitiated, Pran was seen playing the role of Jasjit.
No producer was ready to accept the title
The title of the movie Don also raised a lot of eyebrows and no producer was ready to accept the title. The revelation was made by Amitabh Bachchan in his blog as he wrote, “When Chandra and Salim-Javed announced the name of the film as ‘Don’, no distributor was willing to accept the title. They all thought it was named after Dawn underwear, a popular brand at that time. The film “Godfather” had just made its mark in cinematic circles. The word Don was unknown until then.
Pran’s character was changed before filming
Pran’s character, Jasjit, was originally supposed to walk straight according to the script. However, according to a report in Mumbai Mirror, his character was changed and given a stick as Pran met with an accident before Don was filmed.
Farida Jalal was part of Don
It was reported that Farida Jalal was also part of the cast of Don. However, her character was later removed due to the length of the film.
